HOUSE 2013 Sponsume

HOUSE2013campaign-1

You can help us make HOUSE 2013 the most engaging contemporary visual arts event in Brighton and Hove.

HOUSE 2013 opens to the public on Saturday 4 May 2013 amidst a grand cultural tradition of springtime festival fever across Brighton and the surrounding area. Our small hard working team really need your support and donations to make this year’s events programme the best ever.

At HOUSE 2013 we have co-commissioned a new immersive installation from internationally renowned Bristol based artist Mariele Neudecker, Heterotopias and other domestic landscapes which will be installed at grade I listed building The Regency Town House in Brunswick Square, Hove.

Through an open submission process we have commissioned 4 additional new works from South East based contemporary artists Andrew Kotting with Anonymous Bosch, David Wightman, Emma Critchley and Dylan Shipton & Ben Fitton.

This year HOUSE will be taking visitors on a journey to unknown landscapes at unexpected venues and spaces across Brighton & Hove.

From Neudecker’s images beamed in from the remotest parts of the planet and the deepest ocean beds to the rare chance of observing a grounded, collapsed airship from artist collaborators Shipton and Fitton.

Andrew Kötting with Anonymous Bosch, newly returned from their expedition to the French Pyrenees, transport us, via their pinhole image installation, to a remote cave deep within The Mountain of Fear. Emma Critchley’s work Aria invites us into a space altered by a sonic liquid landscape that will heighten the senses.

And a little closer to home, David Wightman’s large-scale wallpaper painting will seek to impart a sense of homely melancholy and failed beauty in an unknowable landscape.

HOUSE 2013 takes place from 4 to 26 May in various locations. Exhibitions open Thursdays to Sundays, 12 noon to 6pm.

Your donation will enable us to develop a new highly engaging and interactive programme of HOUSE 2013 activities, taking visitors deep inside the artist’s worlds.

This May HOUSE 2013 will be able to offer, with your support, around 30,000 visitors the chance to meet the artists, join in debate and talks, watch films and explore new contemporary art throughout the city.

Bits of Berlin

Slight delay in getting any images from my recent trip to Berlin up here – I fully intended to blog as I went but things just never work out as planned!

Annoying my camera had objections to the weather and was at best temperamental but here are a couple of images from my wanderings and new found love of german architecture.

I absolutely fell in love with the Bauhaus. White on White.

Entrance hallway with stained glass somewhere in Kreuzberg. I love all of the inside outside spaces in the city. Especially the hallways and entrance-ways that are equivalent to the size of a whole house in england.

The trip has directly inspired new works; I’ll get some work in progress images and ideas up here soon….

“In search of rare and dying languages he travelled to far away places throughout Europe and Asia and, in January of 2012, came to Sakha (Yakutsk) in northeast Siberia. From it’s capital Yakutsk, his journey brought him t a small village called Oymiakon, the “cold pole of earth” where in 1926 record temperatures of -71,2c were measured. Such extreme geographic conditions allow for the so-called “Ice Whispering” a speech phenomenon that occurs only below -55c or colder. Staack has recorded the Ice Whispering and presents it in a gallery space through both a sound and video installation. “

HOUSE2013 – Internship

I am going to be doing an internship for the next three months with the team from HOUSE to help deliver this years visual arts component of the may festival. A little info below:
Hunting Trip - Mariele Neudecker, Lead Artist 2013Hunting Trip – Mariele Neudecker, Lead Artist 2013

HOUSE is Brighton & Hove’s ambitious and vibrant contemporary visual arts event exploring the theme of Art & Domestic Space.

In 2013 the event takes place from 4 to 26 May. HOUSE is working with internationally acclaimed artist Mariele Neudecker as this year’s Lead Artist whose work will be coming to Brighton in May, for HOUSE 2013. With a major new work co-commissioned with Brighton Festival. Alongside an exhibition of related works.

Neudecker’s commission will be the starting point for four new satellite commissions from emerging artists based in the South East region bringing original contemporary art to the streets and public spaces of Brighton & Hove.

HOUSE 2013 Lead Artist, and this years co-commission with Brighton Festival, is German born artist Mariele Neudecker. Neudecker’s work investigates and challenges our ways of seeing, perceiving and experiencing landscape in its real and imagined representations.

Neudecker is known for her work in a broad range of media including sculpture, installation, film and photography and for her work creating atmospheric alternative realities in glass vitrines.

For HOUSE 2013 Neudecker undertook a sled expedition with native hunters to North West Greenland, documenting the experience with the aid of cameras. For HOUSE 2013, Neudecker presents the Brighton Festival co-commissioned work Unknown landscapes – Domestic landscapes.

HOUSE is grateful for funding support from Arts Council England and Brighton Festival. Neudecker’s new Arctic and deep sea works have been developed in collaboration withInvisible Dust.
